Rams defensive lineman Connor Nolan sacks quarterback Nate White during the team’s intersquad scrimmage at McLeod Park earlier this month, with linebacker Joe Patko (#24) ready to pounce.

After spending the past month hitting each other, the Langley Rams will finally get the opportunity to hit an opponent.

The junior (ages 18-22) football Rams mark their first year in Langley after spending more than 60 years in Surrey and South Surrey. The team hosts the Vancouver Island Raiders on Saturday (July 30) at McLeod Park. Kick-off is 5 p.m.

The Rams were 5-5 in 2010 while the Raiders were 9-1 and are the five-time defending B.C. Junior Football Conference champions.

Head coach Jeff Alamolhoda said his troops are raring to go for some game action.

“You can’t mimic game speed and you can’t mimic the feeling you get when you have an opponent across from you,” he said.

“The guys are real excited; we will be able to hit someone with a different colour jersey on.

The team has been training for the past month in anticipation of their season opener.

“We have worked hard to get ready for this, now it is just about getting them out on the football field and being able to fly and make plays and have some fun.”
