The Langley Rams bounced back from their first defeat of the season in a big way.
The Rams improved to 6-1-1 in the B.C. Junior Conference standings after a 41-7 win over the host Westshore Rebels on Saturday afternoon at Bear Mountain Stadium.
"We changed a few things in our preparation during the week, some more uptempo stuff," said Rams coach Jeff Alamolhoda.
"Other than that, all we did was get hungry again and play with a chip on our shoulder."
Langley was coming off a 41-29 home loss to the Vancouver Island Raiders in a first-place showdown. The Raiders (7-0-1) will again visit McLeod Park on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Rams would need to win the rematch by 13 points or more to have any shot at finishing in top spot. The two rivals played to a 31-31 draw in week two.
Against Westshore, the Rams started slowly, leading 5-0 after one quarter on a Nick Naylor field goal and a safety.
The visitors offence got on track in the second, scoring 15 points while the Rebels registered their lone square in that period, also.
The second half was all Langley as the Rams outscored the Rebels 21-0 for the 41-7 final.
Quarterback Greg Bowcott tossed three touchdown passes — two to Malcolm Williams and another to Nick Downey — while throwing for 263 yards.
Downey and Williams both caught five passes for 113 and 91 yards, respectively. Williams was also named the player of the game.
Along the ground, Daniel Xavier rushed for 46 yards and a score while Kyle Albertini ran for 55 yards.
The fifth touchdown came courtesy of the defence as Sheldon Van Roon returned a fumble 80 yards for the score. Jaleel Barrett also intercepted a pass while Adam Konar recorded a sack and a half, three tackles and a forced fumble.
The Rams also held the Rebels to just 278 yards of offence and the one touchdown, a second quarter run by Greg Morris.
Nick Naylor kicked a field goal and four converts. Bowcott also ran in a two-point convert and the Rebels conceded a safety for the other two points.
