Receiver dazzles as Langley Rams tame Westshore Rebels

It was the Bobby Pospischil show Saturday at McLeod Stadium.

The Langley Rams used a bit of razzle-dazzle in their 42-9 win over the Westshore Rebels at McLeod Stadium on Saturday.

One of their five touchdowns was a 71-yard pass from receiver Bobby Pospischil to running back Nathan Lund on a trick play.

It helped spark a Rams team that didn’t muster much at all, offensively, in the first and fourth quarters, but owned the second and third stanzas.

With the win, Langley sits tied with the Kamloops Broncos and V.I. (Nanaimo) Raiders for second in the B.C. Football Conference, all with 3-2 marks.

The Rebels from Victoria fell to 1-4.

The big test for the Rams comes this Saturday, Aug. 29 when they host the undefeated, 5-0 Okanagan Sun.

In their last meeting, the Sun defeated the Rams 32-13 at Kelowna’s Apple Bowl on Aug. 15.

Dating back to last year, the Sun has only suffered one defeat in 15 regular season games.

On Saturday, former SFU Clan receiver Pospischil starred for the Rams, catching three passes for 159 yards and a touchdown, to go with his touchdown toss to Lund in which he broke several tackles before throwing the ball downfield.

Quarterback Dylan Tucker, Lund, and Jacob Patko all scored majors on the ground for the Rams, whose defence bent – allowing 295 yards passing and 330 yards net offence over four quarters – but didn’t break – giving up just nine points on a converted Joe Barkhouse touchdown and two singles.

The Rams scored 28 points in the second quarter and tacked on 14 in the third quarter to pull away.

The Rebels actually led 1-0 after the first quarter and held the Rams pointless in the final stanza while scoring the only point of the quarter.

Also scoring a major for the Rams was Dallas Yassinsky who hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Tucker.
