A sea of helmeted cyclists awaited the start of the Prospera Valley Gran Fondo Sunday morning.

Starting in the shadow of the Fort Langley National Historic Site, 1,500 cyclists headed out for the annual Prospera GranFondo bike ride early on July 19.

The fourth annual event saw riders take on 50 kilometre, 88 km, or 160 km routes. The longest route, 100 miles, led riders as far as Yarrow before heading back over Sumas Mountain and to the Fort.

The non-profit event’s proceeds go to organizations promoting youth cycling in B.C., including the iRide program, Devo, and Bridging the Gap.
