Ridge Meadows Flames edge Aldergrove Kodiaks in double OT

The Aldergrove Kodiaks were on the losing end of a tight game on Friday, falling 6-5 in double overtime to the host Ridge Meadows Flames.

In a junior B game featuring Pacific Junior Hockey League Harold Brittain Conference teams, Grant Rostvig’s goal 2:16 into the three-on-three double overtime period gave the Flames the win.

The Kodiaks moved ahead 5-3 on Eric Callegari’s power play goal at the 10:02 mark of the third period.

Then, back came the Flames, who scored the final two goals of the frame to tie the score and send proceedings into overtime.

Dale Howell narrowed the deficit to 5-4 with an unassisted goal at the 12:04 mark. Just 18 seconds after that, Danny Wilson scored to tie the game at 5-5.

Aldergrove led 1-0 after the first period.

In the second period, the Flames had a 3-1 edge in goals to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission.

The Kodiaks scored three unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes and change of the third period to take what looked to be a commanding lead, but they couldn’t hold onto it.

Wilson and Howell scored a pair of goals apiece for the Flames. Rostvig (who added two assists to go with his game winner) and Bradley Crompton rounded out the list of Ridge Meadows goal scorers.

Five different Kodiaks scored including Callegari, Elvis Jansons, Brandon Dolby, Jordan Funk, and Dryden Wust. Cameron Davitt had three assists for Aldergrove.

The Kodiaks host the North Vancouver Wolf Pack tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 15) at Aldergrove Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
