Rivermen can’t tame Wild, fall 4-0

First loss in five regulation games for Langley junior A hockey club

For the first time this season, the Langley Rivermen failed to generate at least a point.

The junior A hockey club was on the wrong end of a 4-0 score to the Wenatchee Wild on Sunday morning, the final day of the BCHL Bauer Showcase at Chilliwack’s Prospera Centre.

Langley played two games at the showcase event featuring all 17 teams, receiving a hat trick from Nicholas Ponak in a 4-3 win over the Merritt Centennials on Sept. 21.

The Wild scored twice in the second period and then added two more in the third for the 4-0 win.

Lukas Svejkovsky led Wenatchee with two goals and an assist while Cooper Zech had a goal and one helper.

The loss dropped the Rivermen to 2-1-0-2 on the season. They will look to return to the win column when they host the West Kelowna Warriors on Sept. 26 at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
