Langley snaps three-game winless streak with 3-2 win over Coquitlam

The Langley Rivermen snapped a three-game winless streak, edging the Coquitlam Express 3-2.

The junior A hockey clubs were completing a home-and-home series which saw Coquitlam beat Langley 2-1 on Friday night before Saturday’s rematch at the George Preston Recreation Centre.

Langley sits second in the BCHL’s Mainland Division at 4-2-4-0.

The Rivermen managed just five goals combined despite peppering the Express goal with 83 shots on net.

In Saturday’s contest, overtime was looming before Angus Crookshank snapped the 2-2 with 17 seconds remaining.

Trevor Ayre and Ethan Leyh had the other Rivermen goals while Braedon Fleming made 15 saves in the victory.

Alex Ambrosio and Riley Johnson had the Express goals.

In Friday’s game, Coquitlam led 1-0 on a goal from Jake Brien late into the third period before John Wojciechowski pulled the Rivermen even. But 37 seconds after that, Colby Pederson struck for the winner.

Fleming made 20 saves in the defeat.

The Rivermen are back in action on Oct. 10 as they visit the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
