Rough time in Regina for Spartans

Both men's and women's basketball teams go winless in Regina

It was a rough weekend in Regina for the Trinity Western Spartans basketball teams as both squads came up short in a pair of games against the host Cougars.

The men's team fell 95-72 and 95-60 to fall to 0-12 on the season.

The women's team's record sits at 3-7 after losing 79-43 and 84-55.

The games were played Jan. 9 and 10 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Kelvin Smith led the Spartans in scoring both games with 22 points on Saturday and 19 on Sunday.

"We are still learning how to be consistent and compete at a high level. We are learning a lot about ourselves and I am very appreciative that our guys are sticking together," said TWU coach Aaron Muhic.

"We are going to continue to work hard, stay positive and get better with every opportunity."

"Regina shot the lights out in that second quarter and that was somewhat devastating, but I am really proud of how hard the team played and how committed they were to learning from a great team in the second half," said coach Cheryl Jean-Paul.

"We have some younger players that can look at their older players and develop the same tenacity that it takes to be a top team in Canada West."

Kristin Ford came off the bench to lead the team with 11 points in both games.

Both Spartans teams are in action this weekend as they host Calgary at the Langley Events Centre on Jan. 22 and 23.
