Trinity Western University’s Sarah Inglis took on a bevy of NCAA Div. I comers and beat them all at the University of Washington Sundodger Invitational, as the Spartans third-year runner took first place in the top section Saturday at Lincoln Park.
The Falkirk, Scotland native, who finished second at in the invitational section last year, pulled away from the pack midway through the race and ran away with it down the stretch, finishing the six kilometre circuit in 20:22.84.
Inglis led a strong Spartans trio in the Invitational as teammates Regan Yee finished sixth overall and Lisa Brooking, who was competing in her first individual race with TWU, was seventh.
Yee crossed the line in 20:48.75 while Brooking came in at 20:53.87.
The host University of Washington was the only school to place anyone above TWU in the Invitational. The Huskies took second through fifth.
In the women’s open race, Mirelle Martens was the star of the Spartans show as she finished second overall, coming in with a time of 21:19.58 over the same six kilometre course.
Martens’ time would have placed her 15th overall in the Invitational.
Hannah Ryan was 18th in the open event with a time of 22:07.17 while Meg Harradine was 49th in 22:45.98, Joanna Williams was 99th in 23:38.74 and Katelynn Ramage was 114th in 23:55.81.
The Spartans will now prepare for the Western Washington Classic in Bellingham, Wash., on Oct. 8 at East Lake Padden Park.
