Sam Sieben scored a pair of touchdowns — including one off a huge block from Jayden Bernemann — as the North Langley Bears edged the Mission Niners 20-19.

The two atom football teams battled on Saturday in Mission.

Kache Potozny came up with huge fumble recovery for the defence while Scott Kortus and the rest of the defensive line also had strong games.

Peewee

For the second straight week, the North Langley Bears peewee team pitched a shutout.

The Bears went on the road to Mission and blanked the Niners 32-0.

Lucca Patterson keyed the strong defensive effort with a pair of quarterback sacks, a fumble recovery and several tackles.

Reece Fennell, with an interception, and Ryan Heutink, with a fumble recovery, also had turnovers for the defence.

The offence had a balanced attack with Rylan Middleton and Damon Bernemann both finding the end zone twice while Rowen Engele also added a major. Aiden McMurty, Evan Hoy, Owyn Caster, Lachlan MacInnes and Ben Evans also had solid games for the offence.

Bantam

The game began brilliantly for the North Langley Bears as Zach Siegemund scored on a pick-6, staking his Bears to an early 6-0 lead. The bantam football team was playing under the lights last Friday in Chilliwack versus the Giants.

But the Giants scored 35 unanswered points to prevail 35-6.

Despite the loss, there were some positives.

Ciaran Davies had a 20-yard interception return, Callum Middleton and Mitchell Gibbs came through with multiple catches, Chris Morrison was solid on both sides of the ball, Luke Summerville came up with a touchdown-saving tackle and quarterback Jesse Nielsen withstood a relentless Giants pass rush.

Midget

Defence and special teams helped the North Langley Kodiaks dominate the Westside Warriors on Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park in midget football action.

Ryan Barthelson scored on a punt return — as well as setting up another major with a 65-yard return — as well as a pick-6 in the Kodiaks’ 32-3 victory.

Both Isaiah Key and Austin Balzer threw touchdown passes, to Luke Chalk and Adam Brass, respectively, while Charlie May rounded out the scoring with a field goal and four converts.

Daniel Evanow, Mason Block, Ethan Croome, Eric Bouma and May had solid games for the defence with Evanow recovering a fumble and May coming up with a huge tackle for a loss.Flag
