Silver lining to season's end for Thunder

Langley midget lacrosse team overcomes slow start to place second at provincial championships

There was a silver lining to the end of the lacrosse season for the Langley Thunder midget A1 squad.

Competing at the midget box lacrosse provincial championships, which ran July 23 to 27 in Campbell River and Comox Valley, the Thunder were doubled up 8-4 in the gold medal game against the Coquitlam Adanacs.

The fact they even made the championship final was impressive as the Thunder got off to a slow start at the tournament, losing their first three games.

Langley lost 8-7 in overtime to Coquitlam and then lost a pair of 5-2 decisions to Ridge Meadows and New Westminster, respectively.

The Thunder finally found the win column on day three, defeating Saanich 7-2 and then booked a spot in the semifinals with a 7-5 win over Juan de Fuca.

Seeded third, Langley upset No. 2 Ridge Meadows 9-5 to advance to the championship final.

Langley’s Matthew Brunsch earned his team’s Warrior Sports Canada Fair Play award while Connor Watson was named to the all-star team.
