The Aldergrove Kodiaks found themselves on opposite ends of blowouts last week.
The Kodiaks skated to a lopsided 8-2 win over the Langley Knights last Wednesday at Aldergrove Arena.
The very next day, the Kodiaks lost 5-1 to the Richmond Sockeyes at Richmond Arena.
These mixed results puts the defending Pacific Junior Hockey League champion Kodiaks’ record at 17-12-2-5, as they sit on top of the PJHL’s five-team Harold Brittain Conference.
The Kodiaks have a three-point lead on the Knights and Abbotsford Pilots, who are tied for second in the conference with 38 points each.
Mission (17-16-1-2 for 37 points) and Ridge Meadows (a distant fifth with a 12-24-0-1 record for just 25 points) round out the conference.
Thursday in Richmond, the Sockeyes built a 4-0 lead by the third period before Aldergrove’s Aaron Markin snapped Richmond goaltender’s Kurt Russel’s shutout bid at the 8:50 mark of the frame.
Forty-eight seconds after Markin’s goal, the Sockeyes’ Kyle Dion found the net to round out the scoring.
Jacob Wozney scored twice for the Sockeyes, who are second in the PJHL’s Tom Shaw Conference with a 27-8-0-2 mark, four points back of the frontrunning North Vancouver Wolf Pack (29-6-0-2).
The Kodiaks return to the ice Wednesday when they host Mission City at Aldergrove Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
