A career night from Holly Strom was not enough as the Trinity Western Spartans fell to 0-6 on the season.
The Spartans women's basketball team was in Victoria for a pair of games, losing to the Vikes 73-61 on Friday and then 72-59 on Saturday. Both games were at the McKinnon Gym.
The Vikes are ranked eighth in the country.
Strom scored 31 points — bettering her previous high of 25 points which was set the night before — and tied a career-high with 13 rebounds.
What really sunk the Spartans was starting Saturday's game in an 18-2 hole.
"Tonight was a story of two halves," said Spartans coach Cheryl Jean-Paul.
"The tough start and the climb back into the game was example of who we've been, but then also who we're becoming.
"We fought several times to bring the game back to single digits, and I thought Holly made a huge statement with her ability to score big in big situations."
Following the early deficit, the Spartans clawed back to get within eight points after one quarter, although Victoria extended the lead to 14 at the half. Trinity Western outscored the Vikes 31-30 in the second half, but the damage was already done.
"We are still making it very tough on ourselves to win in the end," Jean-Paul said.
"I'm eagerly awaiting for the game where we all show up offensively on the same night and match that with improved individual defense. We know wins will be the result."
Chantelle Martin had 11 points and Laurissa Weigl added nine rebounds and six points.
In Friday's game, the Spartans held a brief lead in the third quarter, but lost by a dozen points.
The Spartans return to the Langley Events Centre for a pair of home games this weekend against Winnipeg on Nov. 23 and Manitoba on Nov. 24.
