The Trinity Western Spartans women's soccer team landed five players on the Canada West all-star teams, including four on the first team.
Jennifer Castillo, Vanessa Kovacs, Natalie Boyd and Krista Gommeringer were named first team all-star while Colleen Webber earned second team honours.
Boyd and Kovacs are midfielders, while Gommeringer is a striker and Castillo a defender. Webber is a centre back.
This is the fifth straight year Boyd has earned conference all-star status. She was a second team all-star in 2009, and has been a first team all-star every year since. She was also a Canadian Interuniversity Sport second team all-star in both 2010 and 2011 and a first team all-star in 2012.
Boyd had four goals and two assists while starting all 11 games she played.
Castillo is a first team all-star conference all-star for the third straight year and she was also the most valuable player and first team CIS all-star in 2012. She had a goal and assist while starting 10 games.
Gommeringer was both a conference and CIS first team all-star last year as well as the 2012 Canada West rookie of the year. She led the Spartans with 10 goals, which was tied for the conference lead, and added five assists.
Kovacs was a CIS tournament all-star last year and Webber is an all-star for the third straight year.
Webber was a Canada West first team all-star in both 2011 and 2012 and was also a CIS second-team all-star in 2011 and a CIS tournament all-star last year.
Webber played the second most minutes on the team this past season as she was on the field for 1,047 minutes and finished with a goal and an assist.
The all-stars were announced on Oct. 31 ahead of the Canada West Final Four championships, which are being hosted by the Victoria Vikes.
Trinity Western advanced thanks to a 2-0 quarter-final victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Oct. 26 with Kovacs scoring both goals. She had a goal and an assist during the regular season.
The Spartans, who finished fourth in the Canada West regular season, play the first place Vikes in one semifinal while UBC battles Alberta in the other.
The two winners advance to the Canada West gold medal game as well as to the CIS national championships in Toronto.
The Spartans are on an eight-game winning streak and are unbeaten in their last 11 (9-0-2).
