One game after surrendering a two-goal lead and having to settle for a 2-2 draw, the Trinity Western Spartans got back into the win column.
The Spartans men's soccer team improved to 6-0-2 after drawing the host Winnipeg Wesmen 2-2 on Saturday and winning 2-0 over the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary.
Trinity Western is ranked seventh in the country.
"Pleased with the three points, but disappointed we didn't get six," said Spartans coach Pat Rohla, referring to the fact his team squandered two points by settling for the draw in Winnipeg.
"We had a workmanlike effort after a big travel day and I am very pleased with our performance, although we should have done better on restarts.
"We have to find ways to take the heart out of a team earlier but overall a good performance by Brayden Gant, Spencer Schmidt and our back four looked tight again."
Schmidt came off the bench to score on a free kick in the 59th minute. Cameron Parkes added a second on a long looping shot in the 87th minute.
Andrew Hicks made one save to earn the clean sheet.
The previous day in Winnipeg, Trinity Western was ahead 2-0 with goals in the 17th and 19th minutes, respectively, from Jarvis Ambaka and Schmidt.
But the Spartans conceded goals in the 31st minute — Adam Bromley on a free kick — and then in second half extra time to Krzysztof Szulc to let two points slip away.
"We forgot that hard work is where to get results, being willing to take the extra step to make a difference," Rohla said.
"We did not show the moxie that has been our edge. We have become too reliant on someone else to carry the load and too passive in missing opportunities."

The Spartans are off this weekend before the travel to face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Oct. 13 and the Alberta Golden Bears on Oct. 14.
