The Trinity Western Spartans remain winless on the season after dropping a 5-2 decision to Simon Fraser on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Spartans to 0-9-0-1 on the hockey season.
Trinity Western trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes — Josh Stephenson had both Spartans goals — but SFU poured it on in the third period, outshooting the Langley visitors 23-4 and scoring three times.
“It was a solid game for us for 40 minutes but in the third period SFU really cranked it up,” said Spartans coach Dwayne Lowdermilk. “It’s another disappointing loss but we know we’re not far from getting that first win and starting to get this thing rolling.”
Jamie Russell and Tyler Miller had an assist apiece for TWU while goaltender Tim Zwiers was kept busy, making 46 saves on the 51 shots he faced.
For Simon Fraser, Colton Graf had two goals while Tadz Brown, Nick Sandor and Ben Van Lare contributed singles. Taylor Swaffield had two assists while Trent Murdoch, Chris Hoe, Mike Ball, Jono Ceci, Kyzen Loo and Sandor each picked up one assist. Simon Fraser goalie Evan Kurylo stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced.
The Spartans will return to the ice for their final game of the fall semester Nov. 23 when they host Eastern Washington at 7 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.
