Trinity Western's Rachel Hutchinson (#10) set up four goals over the weekend as the Spartans won a pair of games, defeating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack and the UBC Okanagan Heat.

The Trinity Western Spartans women’s soccer team erupted for seven goals over the weekend as they stayed unbeaten on the season, improving to 5-0-2.

The Spartans had just three goals in their previous three games, but found their offence this weekend in a trip through the interior, defeating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 4-0 on Saturday in Kamloops and 3-0 on Sunday in Kelowna against the UBC Okanagan Heat.

“Really pleased in how we executed our game plan and a good early start for us. UBC O came back into the game and played a little more direct and forced us to defend a couple of corners,” said TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh.

“Overall a good corporate win for us and six points against two teams that are on the rise.”

Against the Heat, Rachel Hutchinson set up goals 30 seconds apart, first to Seina Kashima and then to Isabella Di Trocchio.

Stephanie Chin rounded out the scoring, converting a penalty kick in the 43rd minute.

“Rachel was lively today and a bit unlucky not to have added a goal to her two assists,” said Roxburgh.

Ally Williamson stopped both shots in the shutout victory and also made one save the game before in the 4-0 victory.

In that game, Trinity Western scored all four of its goals in the second half.

Danae Derksen converted a corner kick from Hutchinson in the 49th minute before Di Trocchio took a cross from Kashima eight minutes later to double the lead.

Danielle Thune made it 3-0 in the 85th minutes, converting a goal-mouth scramble and Taylor Bubnick completed the scoring in stoppage time on a pretty header off a Hutchinson corner kick.

It was the second straight game Hutchinson set up a pair of goals.

The Spartans, ranked fifth in the country, return home for a pair of games at Chase Office Field.

On Friday they host the Alberta Pandas while the UNBC Timberwolves come to Langley on Saturday. Both matches begin at 5 p.m.
