Trinity Western women's volleyball team improves to 5-1 after back-to-back straight sets victories

A pair of straight sets victories improved the Trinity Western Spartans to 5-1 and helped them maintain their ranking atop the national polls.

The Spartans women's volleyball team knocked off the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack by identical 3-0 scores over the weekend at the Langley Events Centre.

Trinity Western was dominant both days, winning 25-9, 25-9 and 25-13 on Friday and 25-9, 25-7 and 25-11 on the second night.

"I think this game was good for developing as a team and giving everybody an opportunity to contribute," said Spartans coach Ryan Hofer.

"It's not just going to be seven athletes who help us be successful this year. Tonight, we had a chance to get a lot of players on the court, which will certainly help us in the future."

"I was really impressed with our intensity throughout the entire match," he added.

"The girls went out there and got the job done."

Saturday's match saw a dominate serving effort with a new team record established for most aces in a three-set match with 18.

Kelci French led the way with eight aces.

Carly Hamilton had a match-high 12 kills to go along with seven digs and a block and Royal Richardon added seven kills, three aces, six digs and a block.

Alicia Perrin had seven kills, 17 assists and three digs.

In Friday's win, Hamilton had 11 kills and three digs while Amy Ott had eight kills and six digs. Sophie Carpenter had six kills and two blocks and Casie Gano had a game-high four blocks.

From the setter position, French had 19 assists and Lauren Moncks added 14.

The Spartans host the Saskatchewan Huskies in a pair of matches Nov. 16 and 17 at the LEC.
