The Trinity Western Spartans showed some strong finish in rallying for a pair of victories.
The women’s basketball season tipped off the Canada West season with a pair of road victories in Kelowna, defeating the UBC Okanagan Heat 68-60 and 71-63.
The Spartans used strong fourth quarters in both games to pick up the victories.
On Friday, Tessa Ratzlaff led the way with 19 points while Kayla Gordon and Jessie Brown each had 16 points.
In Saturday’s game, Ratzlaff went off for 29 points while Natalie Carkner had a dozen points and Jessie Brown chipped in with 10.
"We were able to grind it out tonight," said TWU coach Cheryl Jean-Paul.
"Reducing our turnovers in the second half and finishing our high percentage takes helped us step up at the right times, especially in the fourth. It's so hard to get two wins on the road so we are really happy to be leaving this gym with two wins.
“We have areas to improve on but more importantly areas of strength to keep taking advantage of in the half-court and defensively."
The Spartans face the UFV Cascades in a home-and-home series.
The teams are in Abbotsford on Nov. 11 and then play at the Langley Events Centre on Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
