In a battle of unbeaten teams, it was the Langley Stampeders who kept their perfect record intact, defeating the North Surrey Bears 23-8.
The midget football game was played last Friday at Bear Creek Park with Langley improving to 4-0.
The Stamps used some trickery early, as Kyle Clarot picked up 30 yards on a fake kick to get Langley in field goal range. They would miss the field goal, but opened the scoring with the single point.
Langley would find the end zone on their next possession on a 55-yard touchdown run to lead 8-0 at the half.
North Surrey got on the board in the third quarter after blocking a kick and then using the short field to tie the score at eight after three quarters.
But the fourth quarter was all Langley as the Stamps offensive line opened up some sizable holes in the Bears defence. Langley would settle for their second rouge to go ahead 9-8 and on the ensuing kick-off, North Surrey fumbled the ball with Langley recovering at the Bears 42. Two plays later, Azuka Okoli was in the end zone. Okoli would add a second touchdown later in the quarter for the 23-8 final score.
Bantam
The Langley Mustangs jumped out to an early lead but could not hold on, falling 22-14 to the Meadowridge Knights in Maple Ridge on Saturday.
Stryker Roloff, Nick Murray and Kai Thomas combined to rush for 125 yards with Roloff scoring a touchdown as well. The team’s other touchdown came courtesy of quarterback Stewart Phillips, also along the ground.
Phillips also had the passing game going, going 5-for-5 for 55 yards with receiver Josh Baba the recipient off all five passes.
Langley’s offensive line had a solid game, both with opening holes for the running game and giving their quarterback time to throw.
And the defence was led by Roloff’s 10 tackles while Murray, Noah Anderson and Evan Love each had five tackles. Love also had a quarterback sack while Anderson blocked a punt. And finally, Baba forced a pair of fumbles while Quinn Vanmuyen forced one.
