After 13 seasons — all with the Vancouver Stealth organization — captain Curtis Hodgson is calling it a career.
Hodgson, who holds the franchise record with 211 games played, announced his retirement on Monday.
“I am proud and fortunate to have been able to represent the Stealth organization my entire playing career,” he said, adding that he felt privileged to remain with the Stealth.
Hodgson will continue to direct the Stealth Lacrosse Academy and Junior Stealth programs and will also serve a front-office position with the team.
He served as team captain for the past four seasons.
“Curtis has embodied everything that is good about our sport over his entire career. He has been an exceptional player on the floor and an unbelievable leader to a generation of players off the floor,” said Stealth president and general manager Doug Locker.
“He has always been a great ambassador of the game. As an organization we are very grateful to him for his years of loyalty, sacrifice, leadership and commitment. He is a very special person and we are happy that he will continue with the team in other capacities now that his playing career has concluded.”
Hodgson recently accepted a position as vice-principal at Burnaby South Secondary School.
During his 13 National Lacrosse League seasons, Hodgson missed just five games. The defenceman helped the organization win the 2010 Champion’s Cup. The team also made both the 2011 and 2013 Champion’s Cup finals.
He finishes his career with 708 loose balls, 35 goals and 105 points.
