Teddy Bear toss a winning night for Langley Rivermen

Fans didn't have to wait long

Langley Rivermen fans didn't have to wait long for their team to score a first goal, the signal for the team's annual Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Playing against Powell River Kings at George Preston, Rivermen struck first.

Sebastian Bradshaw played a pass out front that went off a Kings' skate and into the visitor’s net for his fourth of the season and a 1-0 Rivermen lead with 5:38 gone in the first, making it rain Teddy Bears early in the contest.

Rivermen led for the rest of the game with goals from Ryan Schelling, Noah Samanski, Dalton MacGillivray and Henry Butte to win their 12th of the season and final at home before the Christmas break.

More than 875 fans came through the door and everyone had either a teddy or some warm items for donations, the team reported.

Teddy bears were on sale at the game with a minimum $10 donation, and all of the profits go directly to the Langley Hospice Society and food bank.

The win followed Friday night's 9-5 loss in Chillwack to the Chiefs.

Langley scored two goals 38 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead in the first period, was still leading 5-3 by the end of the second, but Chilliwack scored six unanswered goals in the third for the win.

Luke Pfoh got two for Langley, with Dalton MacGillivray, Ethan Merner and Ryan Schelling also scoring.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, Langley visits Prince George Spruce Kings at Kopar Memorial Arena.
