After the Maple Ridge Burrards closed to within a goal in the third period, the Langley Thunder responded with four unanswered goals to take sole control of second place in the Western Lacrosse Association.

The senior A Thunder — playing with two of their six new players — defeated the visiting Burrards 9-5 on Wednesday (July 3) at the Langley Events Centre.

And coupled with a Victoria loss to Burnaby, the Thunder (6-3-2) are two points back off the first-place Shamrocks, with a game in hand. Langley had gone winless (0-1-2) in their past three games.

Langley had led 1-0 after one period and were up 5-2 after 40 minutes.

Newly-acquired Adam Jones (one goal, two assists) and Dane Dobbie (one goal, one assist) both hit the scoresheet in their Langley debuts.

Shayne Jackson (two goals, one assists) and Alex Crepinsek (two goals) had multi-goal games. Garrett Billings (one goal, one assist), Scott Johnston (one goal, one assist) and Athan Iannucci had the other scores.

John Lintz chipped in with three helpers.

Brodie MacDonald stopped 36 of 40 shots.

The Thunder also held Maple Ridge's Curtis Dickson to a single goal. He leads the WLA with 39 goals and 71 points in 11 games.

The Thunder are at the New Westminster Salmonbellies on July 4. The game will be played at Queen's Arena.
