The Langley Thunder used a six-goal second period to defeat the Coquitlam Adanacs 9-7 in game three of the best-of-seven Western Lacrosse Association semifinal series.

The Thunder now hold a commanding 3-0 series lead and will go for the sweep on Aug. 10 at the Coquitlam Sports Centre.

In the series' third game — which was played Aug. 8 at the Langley Events Centre — Alex Turner gave the home side a 1-0 3:13 into the contest.

And the score would stay that way for the rest of the first period.

But the middle frame was a different story as the teams combined for 10 goals — six of which Langley scored — and the Thunder held a 7-4 lead after 40 minutes.

The Adanacs would make a game of it with three goals in less than five minutes to open the third period, but Scott Johnston and Athan Iannucci scored 2:32 apart for the Thunder victory.

A big story in the game was penalty killing as Langley killed off seven of the eight Coquitlam power plays. Langley went 1-for-2 with the man advantage and scored another pair while short-handed.

That is in stark contrast to game two when both teams struck for four goals on the power play.

Adam Jones and Shayne Jackson both had two-goal performances while Garrett Billings and Dane Dobbie had one goal apiece.

If necessary, game five of the series would be Aug. 12 at the LEC.
