Fraser Valley major midget hockey league returns from Kelowna with one win, one loss

The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds bounced back from a season-opening loss to earn a split against the Okanagan Rockets.

The Rockets snapped a 2-2 tie with less than five minutes remaining to take game one by a 3-2 score on Saturday in BC Major Midget Hockey League action. But the Thunderbirds bounced back the following day, prevailing 5-3.

Both games were played at Kelowna’s Capital News Centre.

Langley’s Jonathan Rees and Chilliwack’s Dylan Debrun led the attack with a goal and an assist apiece in the victory. Jayden Genberg (Langley), Jake Mulder (Abbotsford) and Baxter Anderson (Aldergrove) each scored once.

Fraser Valley scored three times in the final 11 minutes to break a 2-2 tie.

In game one, Anderson led the T-Birds with a goal and an assist while Nowel Maarhuis (Chilliwack) had the other goal.

Both goals came on the power play.

The Thunderbirds are in action this weekend as they face the Kootenay Ice twice at the Richmond Oval.
