Titles for Togeretz, Harrison

Credo Christian, Walnut Grove athletes win respective pentathlon titles at combined event track and field championships

A pair of local athletes took top spot in their respective divisions at the B.C. track and field combined event championships. They were held May 27 and 28 at South Surrey Athletic Park.

Credo Christian’s Ryan Togeretz won the junior boys pentathlon while Walnut Grove’s Holly Harrison took top spot in the Grade 8 girls pentathlon.

Togeretz scored 2,911 points over the five events, finishing first in the shot put (11.82m) and long jump (5.46m), second in 100m hurdles (14.72) and 1000m (3:03.13) and third in the high jump (1.60m).

Reuben Sikma (Credo) was third with 2,685 points. Sikma was second in  shot put (11.43m), high jump (1.63m) and long jump (5.20m) and third in  100m hurdles (15.23) and 1000m (3:15.50).

Harrison scored 2,972 points to beat Langley Fundamental’s Sheelena Wiley, who had 2,429 points. Walnut Grove’s Shaunika Suriya was fifth with 2,025 points.

Harrison was first in  80m hurdles (12.45), high jump (1.53m) and 800m (2:29.93), second in shot put (8.86m) and third in long jump (4.39m).

Wiley was second in  long jump (4.57m), and third in 80m hurdles (14.26), shot put (8.75m), 800m (2:44.40) and  high jump (1.38m). Suriya was third in high jump (1.38m) and long jump (4.39m), fourth in 80m hurdles (14.80) and shot put (7.12m) and fifth in 800m (3:03.38).

And in the senior boys’ decathlon, D.W. Poppy’s Ethan Foster would have finished second with 4,909 points, but the junior-aged athlete was competing under exhibition status. Langley Secondary’s Nathan King was fourth with 4,497 points.

Foster was first in both pole vault (3.80m) and 1500m (4:47.87), second in long jump (5.91m), third in 400m, fourth in discus (26.37m), fifth in high jump (1.67m) and javelin (29.20m), sixth in 100m (12.38) and shot put (9.27m) and seventh in 110m hurdles (20.43).

King was second in javelin (33.76m), third in 100m (11.85) and high jump (1.73m), fourth in 400m (55.06) and 110m hurdles (19.57m), fifth in long jump (5.53m) and 1500m (5:11.70), seventh in shot put (9.15m), discus (19.19m) and pole vault (2.50m).
