Two Langley teams compete in PJHL Winter Classic

The 2016 PJHL Winter Classic featured the Aldergrove Kodiaks and the Langley Knights, two of the 10 teams in the Pacific Junior Hockey League. The three day showcase straddled the New Year’s weekend.

The Richmond Sockeyes closed out the Winter Classic with a 4-1 triumph over the Langley Knights.

The Knights faced Aldergrove at the start of the tournament, losing 5-1.

The Aldergrove Kodiaks skated away with a convincing 5-1 win over the Langley Knights on Day 2. Spencer Unger had a goal and two assist for the Kodiaks who got contributions from five different skaters. Aldergrove goalie Dawson Rodin faced just seven shots in recording his seventh victory of the season.

Josh Pollock scored twice and Spencer Unger registered four assists as the Aldergrove Kodiaks defeated the Ridge Meadows Flames by a score of 6-3 in a penalty filled game on Day 3. It was the sixth win in a row for the Kodiaks who have pulled away from Ridge Meadows in the standings and are mounting a run at the top two teams in the Brittain Conference.

With just six weeks remaining on the schedule, and playoff positioning on everyone’s mind, the next big date is Jan. 10; the PJHL trade deadline. It will be interesting to see which teams make a bold move to give themselves an advantage down the stretch.
