Trinity Western's Melissa Mobilio (#10) and Victoria Vikes Amy Lawrence chase the ball during a Canada West semifinal match, won 3-0 by the Spartans, on Friday at Rogers Park. Mobilio was named TWU's player of the match as the Spartans qualified for the CIS national championships.

After a one-year absence, the Trinity Western Spartans are heading back to the national stage.

The women's soccer team — ranked second in the country — defeated the Victoria Vikes 3-0 at Rogers Park on the TWU campus on Friday in a Canada West semifinal game.

The Alberta Pandas defeated the UBC Thunderbirds 1-0 in penalty kicks in the other semifinal and will join Trinity Western in Montreal next week for the CIS national championships at McGill University.

The Spartans and Pandas meet on Saturday (Nov. 5) at 5 p.m. in the Canada West gold medal game.

In Friday's semifinal, Nikki Wright scored in the 21st minute to open the scoring. On the play, Alicia Tesan sent her streaking down the left-side and Wright was able to get around the goalkeeper and deposit the ball into the open goal.

The Spartans then added two goals six minutes apart in the second half to seal the victory.

Tesan scored in the 60th minute and lobbed the ball over the Victoria keeper.

And in the 66th minute, Daniela Gerig hammered home a rebound off a Melissa Mobilio shot.
