The Trinity Western Spartans put a brief two-game slide behind them as they swept two matches against the visiting Regina Cougars
The Spartans won 3-1 (25-23,23-25,2-15,25-19) on Friday and 3-0 (25-23,25-23,25-22) on Saturday.
The wins improved the women’s volleyball team to 4-2 in Canada West play.
“I like coming away with a sweep. It’s tough to do in Canada West so no question I’m happy about that,” said Spartans coach Ryan Hofer. “I think we played with some decent composure. The games were a little tighter tonight and in the end I think we just made some plays and forced Regina to make some mistakes.
“This was really big. Canada West is so tight this year that I think everybody is going to be fighting for every win they can get to make it to playoffs.”
The Spartans, led by second-year Royal Richardson, who had a game-high 16 kills, rallied from a late four-point deficit to win the opening set and then, after dropping a tight second set, dominated in the third and then took the match with a decisive fourth.
After Richardson, it was Alicia Perrin and Amy Leschied each with 12 kills for the Spartans while Chelsea Hudson had 40 assists.
Trinity Western was led by Leschied, who had 11 kills and eight digs, Kelci French, who had five kills, 16 digs and four blocks, and Richardson, who had eight kills and six digs.
