Not only did the Trinity Western Spartans add two more victories and improve to a conference-best record of 11-1, but the top-ranked women's volleyball team in Canada also secured a post-season berth.
The Spartans won 3-1 (25-22,25-13,16-25,17-25) and 3-0 (29-27,25-20,25-16) over the weekend at the Langley Events Centre against the seventh-ranked Calgary Dinos (6-6).
Trinity Western was led by Kara Jansen Van Doorn, who had 14 kills, and Chelsea Hudson, who had 33 assists and 11 digs.
"She did a really good job of running our offence and running our middles and putting a lot of pressure on Calgary," coach Ryan Hofer said about Hudson.
Hofer was also happy his team put the Dinos away quickly, unlike Friday night when Calgary won the third set and made things interesting in the fourth.
Jansen Van Doorn again led the team, this time with 13 kills, five aces and seven digs. Amy Leschied finished with 10 kills, eight digs and two blocks.
The weekend also marked the return of local product Lauren O'Reilly, who missed the season's first half as she was with the Canadian national team. Solid on Friday night — she had 38 set assists — her return was short-lived as she missed Saturday's rematch after sustaining a minor concussion.
The Spartans will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches against the Saskatchewan Huskies (1-11).
