Wraps up Monday

The 2024 Gil Martin Memorial Tournament featuring U13 Tier 4 and U13 C teams from the lower mainland and beyond is underway at at Langley Sportsplex.

For a second year in a row, the Nov 8-11 event was completely sold-out.

Gil Martin, a longtime Langley hockey coach, mentor and minor hockey board member passed away in 2005.

He had coached in various age divisions within the Langley Minor Hockey League (LMHA) and also served on the association’s executive.

An online account noted Martin “firmly believed motivation, a positive healthy attitude and effective communication to be intrinsic elements of quality instruction and ultimately success in sports and life.

Once again, the tournament supports Foundry Langley, which helps young people, aged 12-24 and their families, with free and confidential access to mental health and substance use support, primary care, peer support and social services.
