VIDEO: Hundreds compete in Langley Olympians intra club meet

An opportunity for older and younger swimmers to get a taste of competition, coach says

The Langley and Abbotsford Olympians intra club meet on Saturday was a chance for swimmers at all levels to to compete, assistant coach Martha Metcalf said.

“It’s an opportunity for them to show their friends, family and their other teammates the training that they’ve been doing so far,” Metcalfe said.

”It’s particularly important for the really young ones because they don’t get a lot of opportunities to race with the older kids.”

A number of swimmers were also aiming to set new club records at the meet.

Metcalfe began her career as a competitive swimmer with the Olympians for 13 years before joining the Simon Fraser University (SFU) varsity swim team.

She swam with SFU for two years before retiring to focus on school and coaching.
