Going into his second season competing as a junior class kart racer, Langley's Grayson Talaba had set a goal of winning the 2024 West Coast Kart Club Championship.
He did that, and more.
At the end of the season, in October when point standings were released, the 13-year-old Murrayville resident and Grade 8 D.W. Poppy student had accomplished his goal, and was also crowned 2024 B.C. Regional Champion in the class (ages 12-15).
“Winning two championships this year was very special for me as a driver and gives me a lot of confidence and excitement for 2025” said Grayson.
A karting prodigy since age six, Talaba capped his cadet class career (age 7-11) with an impressive 22 podium finishes in 28 races, including eight victories.
This season, he joined a new team, Scuderia Estoras and represented the Compkart brand as an official team driver, and won the first West Coast Kart Club (WCKC) race of the 2024 season in March at Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack.
He competed in all 10 rounds of the WCKC calendar as well as the standalone BC Regional championship which took him to all new tracks in Duncan, Quesnel and Oliver.
Over a 16-race season, he recorded 14 podium finishes and six wins before being named regional and club champion.
Next, a winter driver training program starts and so does the search for sponsorship funding for the 2025 season.
In 2025, his plans are to take part in some national/regional karting events in the United States to prepare for a transition to cars in 2026 and beyond.
