Vancouver Giants finished off their preseason schedule on a high note Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15 at the Ladner Leisure Centre with their third win in a row, a 5-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets.
Aaron Obobaifo led the way with two goals for the Giants.
Tyson Zimmer, Cameron Schmidt and Jakob Oreskovic also scored for the G-Men, who finish their preseason with a 3-1 record.
Goaltender Matthew Hutchison stopped 19 of 21 shots.
The Rockets got goals from Kalder Varga and Levi Benson.
Most of Sunday's action occurred in the first period, with five of the game's seven goals being scored in the first 17 minutes of action.
It followed Saturday's game in Kelowna, a 3-2 win for the Giants over the Rockets.
In that game, Tyson Zimmer netted the overtime winner for the Vancouver Giants, a one-timer past Jari Kykkanen on a 4-on-3 power play 2:47 into the extra frame, completing the comeback for the G-Men after they initially trailed 2-0.
Also scoring in the game for the Giants was Ryan Lin and Jakob Oreskovic. Rookie goaltender Burke Hood made 26 saves on 28 shots for his second consecutive preseason win.
The Rockets got goals from Luke Schelter and Jaxon Kehrig.
Giants were without six veterans and the Rockets were without seven regulars due to NHL rookie camp.
In all, eight players eligible to play for the Giants in the 2024-25 season were participating in NHL prospect tournaments or rookie camps, including Ty Halaburda, Sam Honzek, Jaden Lipinski, Connor Levis, Tyler Thorpe, Colton Roberts, Mazden Leslie and Marek Howell.
Vancouver Giants home opener is on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
