WFC2 at McLeod ParkA pair of late goals helped Whitecaps FC2 pick up their first victory of the young season.

Leading 1-0 after a goal from Deklan Wynne in the 13th minute, the young ’Caps got late goals from Andy Thoma (86th minute) and Ben McKendry (stoppage time) to knock off the visiting Settle Sounders FC2 by a 3-0 score.

The United Soccer League game was played on Saturday afternoon at Langley’s McLeod Athletic Park.

Sem de Wit, last year’s team MVP, set up the first goal, stepping up in the midfield and playing a through-ball to Terran Campbell. Campbell’s cross deflected to Wynne in the box and he calmly finished with a side-footer to the far post.

Thoma doubled the lead with a diving header off a cross from Gloire Amanda at the back post and McKendry added the insurance mark with a heavy strike from the right side of the box.

This was the first of six games WFC2 will play in Langley, with the other 10 games at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium.

They are on the road this weekend (April 16) in Portland before playing their UBC opener on April 22 against San Antonio FC.

The team returns to MAP on May 28 with fans invited to bring their pooched pets to the game as part of Mutts at McLeod.
