Young drives home three as Jr. Blaze burn Cards

Russell Young’s bases-loaded RBI single scored the winning run as the Langley Junior Blaze doubled up the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals.

Young’s key hit snapped a 2-2 tie and Nick Holdershaw added a sacrifice fly as Langley defeated Abbotsford 4-2 on Wednesday night at McLeod Athletic Park in BC Junior Premier Baseball League action.

Young finished the night with two hits and three RBIs.

The Blaze improved to 8-5 with the victory.

The teams were tied at two heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Langley loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs.

Ryan Blight pitched a one-two-three seventh to wrap up the win. Blight pitched four innings, striking out three for the win. He allowed two runs, but just one was earned. Joshua Mirecki pitched the first three innings, allowing just two hits.

The two teams meet again, this time in Abbotsford, on May 20, in a doubleheader.
