Yet another popular restaurant chain has set its sights on Langley.

Fariba Gharaei of Urban Design Group outlined plans for a new Cactus Club Café at a public hearing held ahead of Langley City council’s regular meeting on Monday night.

The eatery and three adjoining retail outlets will be located on the southeast corner of Langley Bypass and 200 Street.

Gharaei’s brief presentation, followed by another from a landscape architect, outlined the highlights of the proposal for council and any members of the public who wished to comment on the project.

Because of the consistently heavy traffic to the north and west, the restaurant and three adjacent businesses, of approximately 4,600 square feet each, are designed to be accessed from a parking area located on the south side of the building.

The 7,300-square-foot restaurant will contain seating for 185 inside and out, with covered patio seating as well as an outdoor waiting area.

A sunken patio on the building’s west side will be separated from 200 Street by a raised planter wall and a water feature, designed to reflect and create white noise to mute the sound of traffic.

The design of the 21,550 square foot building is intended to encourage cross-shopping and dining with existing stores in the Power Centre to the south.

Currently, the site is fenced off and occupied by a boarded-up building. Demolition on that building, which has housed, among other things, an automotive garage, a paint store, a real estate office and a federal campaign office, began this week. Construction on the new building is expected to begin as soon as the remains of the old one have been cleared away.
