Langley Rotarian S. Grant Gilmour has been recognized for his work within the community.
Gilmour, the co-owner of Gilmour Knotts Chartered Accountants, received a community service award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC (ICABC).
He received his award on June 20 at the Institute’s annual member recognition dinner.
“The philanthropic work of volunteers like Grant helps enrich communities and the lives of others,” said Richard Rees, chief executive officer of the ICABC.
“He is truly deserving of this award.”
The award recognizes chartered accountants for their outstanding contributions to the community and to volunteer organizations. Recipients are nominated by other members of their profession or by community organizations.
Gilmour has volunteered with the Rotary Club of Langley Sunrise for more than 14 years.
In 1998, he led the club’s Dictionary Project which saw dictionaries delivered to every Grade 4 student in the Langley School District. The project continues to this day with the club hand-delivering 1,600 dictionaries to Grade 4 students at 35 local schools.
The venture has also branched out to other Rotary Clubs across the country.
Gilmour’s contribution as a Rotarian have also extended beyond North America. In 2010, he played a leadership role in the delivery of $400,000 in medical supplies to a hospital in the Philippines.
Gilmour also volunteers as a Cub Scout leader.
