A stretch of 96th Avenue in Fort Langley is to be renamed after the late local volunteer Brenda Alberts.
Langley Township council approved the re-naming Oct. 3, and it was brought forward to the public on Oct. 17.
The stretch of the street from Billy Brown Road to Glover Road will be dedicated as Brenda Alberts Way.
Street signs at the five intersections along the route will carry the commemorative name.
Alberts, the wife of former Langley Township mayor Kurt Alberts, died on July 25 in hospice care.
Brenda Alberts was the owner of the Birthplace of B.C. art gallery in Fort Langley, as well as a busy volunteer, involved with everything from the Langley Relay for Life to the Christmas Bureau.
With veteran Gordon Gillard, she revived Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Fort Langley Cenotaph, an event that now draws annual crowds of thousands.
The road re-naming was in honour of Alberts’ “significant contributions to the Township of Langley both civically, culturally and personally.”
