The village of Fort Langley and the Fort Langley National Historic Site have joined forces to throw a birthday party for Canada.
Inside the walls of the national historic site, there’s a day of activities and free admission.
Enjoy multicultural music, cake and a ceremony at noon, and family activities. It’s a mix of history and modernity. There’s historic weapons demonstrations as well as jazz music, bhangra dancing and Metis dancing.
There will be henna painting available throughout the day and Parka, the site mascot, will be around as people take part in his scavenger hunt.
The highlight of the day is the citizenship ceremony which starts at 10 a.m.
The historic site is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Around the village of Fort Langley, there’s a day of fun planned.
The Thunderbird Fast Draw Club will be doing demonstrations.
The Festival of the Book will take place inside the Fort Langley Community Hall and runs 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. People can meet local authors and publishers and there’s kids activities from noon to 2:30 p.m.
Outside there’s children’s games and races, on-stage music, singing and dancing, food available on King Street, the Cool Balloon Guy, and the Aldor Acres Petting Zoo.
The public can get Canada Day passports stamped at various spots around the community and be entered into a draw for a prize basket.
A hayride takes people in a loop that includes the community hall, the CN Railroad Station, the Langley Centennial Museum, the historic site and the BC Farm and Agriculture Museum where there’s activities at each spot.
Daytime events around the village run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then Bard in the Valley performs Taming of the Shrew on the lawn of the Fort Langley Community Hall starting at 7 p.m. Learn more at celebratecanadaday.ca.
