City hopes water fight can return to full force

Staff hopeful restrictions that limited last summer’s Legendary Water Fight will not be in place for this year's July 16 event

The annual Legendary Water Fight at Al Anderson Memorial Pool is always a big hit with residents. Last year’s event was scaled back to keep in line with Metro Vancouver water restrictions, but staff is hopeful the fight will be able to reclaim its legendary status when it returns on July 16.

Fingers are crossed for the return of an all-out water war to Langley City this year, after it was scaled back last year due to drought conditions.

The annual Legendary Water Fight is scheduled for July 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Al Anderson Memorial Pool.

Kim Hilton, the City’s director of recreation, culture and community services said last year’s event, which did not include the planned participation of the fire department, was much smaller than previous years due to water restrictions from Metro Vancouver.

“It’s a great event. The kids have a tremendous amount of fun,” she said.

“It was greatly reduced [last year]. It wasn’t the same event.”

Hilton said she is in contact with engineering staff with the City and Metro Vancouver to determine if there will be water restrictions that could again cause the event to be scaled back.
