Some good has come out of a bad thing that happened to a special Langley girl.
Several people have come forward offering to buy a new bike for 14-year-old Cayla Morris.
Last week, The Times reported that a bicycle which belonged to the 14-year-old girl with special needs was stolen. It was taken even though it was chained up at her Murrayville townhouse.
Her mother Jo-anne explained that Cayla had just learned how to ride a bike last year — a huge accomplishment. She was enjoying cycling and it was good exercise.
Since then, several Langley residents have come forward to offer to buy Cayla a new bike.
“I’m just in total shock. That’s incredible,” said Jo-anne, who started to cry when she was told of the community’s kindness.
Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said she was really pleased to receive a couple calls from people wanting to help.
Anonymous donors have come through and now Cayla can pick out a new bike and put some bling on it, too.
One person offered a $200 gift card to Walmart, where the original bike was purchased.
Another person has offered to buy whatever bike Cayla picks out.
Bike theft has been a serious problem in Langley this summer.
In the Morris’ case, the criminal brought bolt cutters and took the bike directly from their house.
He returned the next morning when a neighbour caught him in the act and he was arrested.
He is known to police.
