The launch of a documentary series with a Langley connection will take place early next Month in Ottawa.
Wings of Courage, part of the A Nation Soars project, will premiere Nov. 2 and start airing on the CPAC channel on Nov. 6.
The documentaries are one part of a project that has included countless hours of work by Langley-based volunteers at the Canadian Musuem of Flight.
Museum volunteers have constructed two Sopwith Pup replicas.
Early fighter planes like the Sopwith Pup – biplanes armed with machine guns, their wings made of canvas and wood – were used over the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917.
The replicas are to be taken to France to be flown over the Vimy Memorial. The flight is scheduled for the 100th anniversary of the battle, which started on April 9, 1917.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was one of the first times the majority of Canadian troops fought together under a single command.
The project overall is sponsored by the Department of Canadian Heritage and is created to commemorate Canada’s contributions to First World War aviation.
A disproportionate number of air aces came from Canada, including Billy Bishop.
