Costumed interpreters, politicians, guests from Kwantlen First Nation, and the public took part in a re-enactment of the declaration of British Columbia as a Crown colony Saturday morning at the Fort Langley National Historic Site.
The annual Douglas Day activities at the historic site begin with a procession to the Big House inside the fort walls and the declaration.
Township Mayor Jack Froese noted that he enjoys telling people that Langley Township “is the birthplace of B.C.”
He visited the site back when he was in Grade 5.
“I’ve never forgotten it,” he noted, addin g how the site keeps B.C. and local history alive for the public.
