Michelle Carroll, owner of the Langley and Surrey Edible Arrangements, has been moved to action to help a mother of two fighting a large battle with cancer.
Edible Arrangements in Surrey and Langley will donate 10 per cent of specified regular priced arrangements, in the month of October, to Melissa, who is 30 years old and is fighting three cancers.
The Chilliwack woman has breast, brain and liver cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago but it has metastasized to her brain and liver, said Carroll.
Melissa has a four-year-old and six-year-old. Her husband is an RCMP officer but even his medical doesn’t fully cover some very expensive medicine she must take to try and fight this horrific disease.
“We are hoping to give her a bit of peace of mind knowing that at a time like this her family won’t go without,” said Carroll.
“We ask that people tell us they are ordering for Melissa so that we can know what to donate to her.”
Carroll hopes to hand a healthy-sized cheque to Melissa in the beginning of November.
“I honestly can’t imagine what she is going through and we just had to help,” said Carroll, a longtime Langley resident.
This isn’t the first time Carroll, who has two kids of her own, has gotten involved to provide support to someone in need.
She was one of the main organizers of a very successful bottle drive for a Walnut Grove girl battling a serious cancer a few years ago.
She also fundraised and gave her own money to help out a woman she hired who has a rare intestinal disorder that doesn’t allow her to keep any food down.
If you would like to help, order a fruit bouquet and say it is “for Melissa.”
