Thinking of getting a new furry family member?
Then check out the Surrey SPCA Open House and Adoption Fair, set for Sunday, Aug. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cloverdale site.
BC SPCA director of regional operations Jane Talbot said it’s kitten season, so there’s plenty of “frisky felines looking for forever homes.”
But the day isn’t just about adoption. There will also be barn tours, face-painting, animal themed crafts as well as live music, refreshments and a barbecue featuring SPCA certified vegetarian products.
“It’ll be a lot of fun,” said Talbot. “Come and enjoy a fair with a country feel and help us find much-needed homes for the furry creatures in our care.”
The event will be held at the BC SPCA Surrey Education and Adoption Centre, located at 16748 50th Ave.
“(It’s) in a rural setting that features a horse barn and chicken coop, along with emergency housing for homeless cats and small animals, education space for animal-related community programs and the operations centre for our Lower Mainland animal protection officers who rescue animals from neglect and abuse,” she said.

The BC SPCA handles animal welfare in the Langleys and has adoption centres in Surrey and Abbotsford. Locally, the Langley Animal Protection Society runs the animal shelter and is contracted by the Township and City to provide animal control services.
