Social media is helping people get some sumptuous baking while at the same time helping people living with AIDS/HIV.
Langley’s own Duolynx Design & Print is holding Bake a Difference, a live bidding auction of baked goods on Thursday, Sept. 17.
“We asked local chefs, bakers and personalities to donate a delicious baked treat to be auctioned off on our Facebook and to be sold in our print shop in Langley to raise money for our ‘Team Moe’ participating in AIDS Walk Vancouver,” explained Duolynx founders Kerri Lucas-West and Katy Mayrs.
The idea caught fire.
“Our goal was to raise $1,000 but with the way this community has come together, we project meeting that goal if not exceeding it,” Lucas-West said.
People go to the Duolynx Facebook page and bid on items from local notables and others. The auction runs Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the highest bidders get to pick up their treats Thursday or Friday at the print shop in Walnut Grove.
Another option to get one’s hands on goodies is to stop by Duolynx, 204 - 20167 96th Ave., on Thursday for items baked by the auction participants as well as family and friends, staff, clients and more.
Duolynx has a team in the AIDS Walk Vancouver which takes place Sept. 20.
AIDS Walk Vancouver/Positive Living reps are well aware and very supportive of the event.
“Through the wonders of social media we have one woman who saw it on their Facebook share and has contacted us, and is driving in from Vancouver with three of her baked items to donate to the cause,” Mayrs added.
Baking a difference are the likes of Sean Bone, chef of OSSO, chef Jenn Cornish of Water Shed Arts Cafe, Tracycakes Tracy Dueck, Angie Quaale, chef Stephan Schigas of the Blackmith Bakery in Fort Langley, chef Sue Weibe and chef Dan Trites of Ignite Cafe.
There’s also constributions from JD Turkey Farms, Colleen Hayes, Carolyn MacLaren, reator Vickie Mitchell, Otter Co-op, Cobs Bread Walnut Grove, Shelly Roche, social media’s Sherri-Lee Woycik and radio personality Jennifer Thomson.
