Langley has B.C.'s only sanctioned pumpkin weigh-off

Growers of gargantuan gourds gather for scaling of their best and biggest.

Monsters from the backyards and gardens of pumpkin growers will be weighedSaturday  to see who grew the biggest gourd.

Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery is hosting the Official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) and Certified World Recognized Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off Event.

It is the only Certified and Recognized event in all of British Columbia.

The public is invited to attend to see pumpkins from around the province and the Pacific Northwest compete as well as enjoy pumpkin-themed activities and treats.

These aren’t just garden variety pumpkins.

Langley’s Scott Carley from Langley won first place out of 20 pumpkins at the Skagit Giant Pumpkin Festival in Mount Vernon, Wash., on Sept. 26.

He was competing with the big growers down in Washington State and took the top prize with a whopper weighing in at 1,427.5 pounds.

He'll be one of the contestants at the Langley events.

Contestants on Oct. 3 will start arriving at 8:30 a.m. because takes time to move these monsters around. The official weighing start at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
