Langley seniors offered tutorial on transit use

TravelSmart for Seniors offers information about how to make the best use of public transportation

Seniors in Langley who need to be better acquainted with Metro Vancouver’s transit system will have their chance Feb. 22, as TravelSmart for Seniors comes to the Seniors Centre.

TravelSmart for Seniors responds to the reality that as seniors mature, they often find that driving becomes a less reliable option for getting around. This change leads to a new fact of life: having to navigate the public transit system.

Seniors take part in a presentation about the public transportation system covering fare zones, trip planning, accessibility features, and safety and security on SkyTrain, buses and SeaBus. The presentation also looks at the responsibilities of front-line customer service staff.

Getting around on public transit can be a frightening thought for anyone who has spent much of their life driving independently. Discovering both the practical side of transit and the associated opportunities for greater freedom and social interaction, TravelSmart for Seniors can make it a positive, enjoyable experience.

The TravelSmart for Seniors presentation will take place at the Langley Seniors Resources Society, 20605 - 51B Avenue, Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
