The lobby of Langley City hall has become a mini museum for the rest of summer.
The lobby plays host to art exhibits throughout the year.
But its newest display is courtesy of the Canadian Museum of Flight in conjunction with the Fraser Valley Regional Library.
Suspended from the ceiling are two small vintage aircraft (models of a Curtis Robin and a Taylorcraft Model 19 Sportsman) while framed art on the wall shows a variety of aircraft.
On display are intricate models made decades ago by Archie Fraser, and a small photographic history on the evolution of the Langley Regional Airport and the growth of skyways in the region.
“We encourage the public to come by and explore the new exhibit that showcases our proud history in the region. We look forward to community members taking advantage of this free display,” said Kim Hilton, the City’s director of Recreation, Culture and Community Services.
The museum’s home is at the Langley Regional Airport, which borders Langley City’s eastern side and the display is a way to help showcase not only local aviation history but also the work of the volunteer-reliant museum.
The exhibit is on display until Sept. 9, accessible whenever City hall is open (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday).
“The Canadian Museum of Flight was created in 1977 as a non-profit, volunteer driven museum dedicated to restoring, preserving and showcasing Canada’s rich aviation heritage,” said museum general manager Mike Sattler. “As a family friendly facility, we have interactive, we exhibits, displays and a ‘hands on’ mandate that entertains as well as educates.”
